Got Gas – 7/2023

Greetings!   With vacation time here, I hope you are getting some time away from the office.   I was thinking of a note to you with no mention of rates etc, real estate, and provide you with an interesting hot topic-fuel.

With the presidential election less than a year and a half away, the candidates chief focus will be on the economy and the environment.  Five years ago, everyone was saying all cars were going the electric route. Every automobile manufacturer has a full electric or hybrid vehicle in their portfolio.     However, other alternative “green” fuels are coming to the forefront.   Just last month, General Motors invested almost one billion in a diesel fuel facility in Ohio.  A substantial investment for GM as the auto manufacturer invested billions in electric cars over the last ten years.    Very interesting move to say the least.

Then last week, Toyota announced they were going to produce 200,000 hydrogen-fueled trucks by 2025.  Japanese automakers have been adamant about hydrogen fuel as those cars are selling well in China.  The time to “fill” the tank is that of a conventional petroleum automobile, minutes.   Toyota has been testing hydrogen cars in Southern California for a few years to test market a hydrogen car appeal.  Airlines and ocean tankers engines are testing hydrogen fuel as well.  Also, it’s  not a major project to retrofit your conventional gas engine for hydrogen.  Hypothesizing, the gas stations may not go away after all.

Within ten years there will be THE FUEL of the future.   My bet are electric cars will be history for the simple reason the time to juice a battery to its maximum capacity is still lengthy.  We shall see.  I wish you and your families a happy and memorable summer.   Feel free to email me your thoughts.
